The New Vic is transformed into the stage of a popular entertainment TV show ‘Showdown’, its aim, to find the next circus star.
Packed with audience interaction, clever comedy, and a bold mix of circus, spoken word, UK HipHop, Grime, and Afrobeat, Showdown explores the idea of “healthy competition.” Who will you root for to win?
Directed by Upswing’s Artistic Director Vicki Dela Amedume and introduced under the premise of the TV competition, each ‘elimination round’ gives a chance for performers to showcase their abilities including teeterboard, gymnastics and aerial skills.
Rhys Hollis plays the TV presenter, hosting the talent show. Interacting with the audience, encouraging cheering, booing and providing humour along the way whilst introducing the acts, putting them through their paces in the race to be the next King or Queen of Circus.
The performers are Shane Hampden, Jaide Annalise, Rebecca Solomon, Gracie Hill, Loris Di Via and Kussyl Amara. They were exceptional, with astounding acrobatic skills, working both individually and collectively as a group in a thrilling and impressive sixty minute display of gravity defying feats.
It’s a wonderful display of sheer talent and amazing feats of gymnastics and circus skills. The show is on until 10th May and tickets are available https://www.newvictheatre.org.uk/productions/showdown/
